Welcome to Waterhead

Waterhead is the most northerly point to which the steamers and launch's stop, and is only a short walk from the town of Ambleside.

Take A Cruise On Lake Windermere

 

 

Launch's and Steamers sail daily from Ambleside (Waterhead Pier) to Bowness and Lakeside where you can stay on or break your journey and return on any of Windermere Lake cruises later vessels. 

Sail to The Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole.

Alternatively purchase a freedom ticket, valid for 24 hours from time of purchase on any of Windermere Lake Cruises scheduled vessels.

Visit the Armitt Museum

Local history comes to life at the Armitt Museum. Exhibits include a beautiful rocking horse, Roman artifacts, Beatrix Potters watercolours, and the photographic archive of Thomas Bell. 

There are state of the art interactive displays, a traditional lantern show and regular themed exhibitions.

The Homes of Football

The homes of Football is the photographic collection of Stuart Clarke, known internationally for the last 10 years as a touring exhibition. In 1997 an art gallery was acquired on Lake road, Ambleside, to secure a permanent home for the collection. The gallery is open daily throughout the year.

Hayes Garden World

Hayes Garden World is situated midway between Waterhead Pier and Ambleside town centre. 

The award winning nursery complex incorporates sections for plants, garden furniture and equipment, books, gifts and associated items.
