Beat the crowds and the busy roads - travel by boat to the start/finish line.

We are pleased to be involved with the Great North Swim again this year, by providing transport solutions for swimmers and their supporters. Park in a quieter area around Lake Windermere and use our convenient boat service to get the start/finish line.

Travelling from Wray Castle / Wray Castle Campsite

Extra boats will be ferrying swimmers/spectators from Wray Castle >

Top tips for getting to the start line via boat

  • Leave an hour to get from your starting pier (Bowness) to the start at Low Wood Bay. ( i.e. A swimmer in the 9:30am wave needs to get to the start for 8:30am, therefore start your boat journey at 7:30am.)
  • There are a number of car parks near Bowness pier, but they can get quite busy during the weekend. Find a car park in advance with our interactive map.
  • All swimmers/spectators after taking part must walk to Ambleside (Waterhead) Pier to get a return boat to Bowness - see map below for more information
