The Lake District is set to ignite once again this spring in celebration of the wealth of artistic activity in the region. Spark your imagination with a showcase of contemporary culture across The Lakes.

Alongside a huge selection of music, art, comedy and literary highlights across the Lake District, Lakes Ignite 2016 will feature some events in and around Windermere that are easily accessible by boat.

Museum of Water (6-8 May)
Wray Castle

Museum of Water will be sited in Wray Castle Boat House on Wray Castle Pier where our boats arrive and depart.

The exhibition allows visitors to  ponder our precious liquid resource right next to England's largest natural lake. Museum of Water, created by artist Amy Sharrocks and presented by Brewery Arts Centre, comprises of a collection of over 700 bottles of water, each with its own remarkable story. All the bottles have been transported to the site on board our boats and Windermere Lake Cruises is proud to sponsor the exhibition.

Digital painting portraying a traditional wooden launch on Windermere

21st Century Landscape Art Class (14 & 21 May)
Brockhole - Lake District Visitor Centre

Led by digital artist Joseph Connor, this class will encourage people to stop and take time out of their day to sketch what they see in the landscape using their everyday digital devices such as phones and tablets.

Joseph will host creative sessions at Brockhole- Lake District Visitor Centre before the work is shared online and via social media. You can buy tickets for this Art Class from the Brockhole website

Realism and Romance: Beatrix Potter, a life inspired by nature (25 March - 30 October)
Beatrix Potter Gallery in Hawkshead 

Discover an exhibition of Beatrix Potter’s original watercolours and illustrations which explore the inspiration she found in the natural world. From an early age, Beatrix made intricate studies of wild animals, the cycle of the seasons and the woodland environments of her beloved mushrooms.

Go Herdwick Art Trail (25 March - 11 September)
Various venues across Cumbria

Follow a trail of 60 decorated Herdwick sheep across Cumbria, including 2 on board our 'steamers' MV Teal and MV Swan. A map of their locations can also be bought on board our boats.

View our two sheep on MV Teal and MV Swan operating on the Red or Yellow cruises. Use a boat to get within easy reach of 20 more within walking distance of the lake. A Freedom of the Lake ticket will give you 24 hours of unlimited boat travel.
