Transport Trio

The Lakeland Motor Museum, Lakeside & Haverthwaite Steam Railway & Cruise

This great value option combines the excitement of a visit to the museum with a scenic cruise on lake Windermere as well as a ride on a locomotive steam train. The museum’s eclectic collection can be used for observation and comparison work and to demonstrate how, when and why advancements in technology have allowed for changes in materials, design and features. A complimentary educational quiz is free for each child, which encourages engagement, imparts knowledge and stimulates learning. Visit www.lakelandmotormuseum.co.uk to download our education leaflet. The Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam railway links in with the science aspect of the national curriculum eg. physical processes, history and changing transport methods.

The Transport Trio Includes

  • A single lake cruise from Lakeside and Bowness (40 minutes in duration) or vice versa. Return journeys or full lake cruises are also available.
  • A one way ride on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Steam Railway
  • A fun-filled visit to the thought-provoking Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow

Coach Drivers

For great incentives and useful information for tour operators and drivers call 015394 43360. Windermere Lake Cruises has ample parking for coaches at both Lakeside and Bowness piers and there is space for dropping off at Ambleside (Waterhead) Pier. View our interactive map with information about parking, piers and their location around the lake.

On-Board Facilities

Toilets are available on all of our ‘Steamers’ and modern launches (check for disabled access). Many of our Vessels have licensed bars and/or tea bars. So whilst enjoying the marvellous panoramic views, why not treat yourself to a tipple of your choice, or how about a warming soup to prepare you for your journey home?

Facilities for Wheelchair Users

Wheelchair users are strongly advised to call and confirm which vessel is operating which service. Our ‘Steamers’ are suitable for wheelchair users but on-board toilet facilities can only be reached by means of stairs. However there are adapted toilets at Lakeside, Bowness and Ambleside, and ‘Radar’ facilities close to Ambleside and Bowness Piers. The main saloons are wheelchair accessible on the Teal and the Swan but not on the Tern (although there is ample covered accommodation).
