Take a scenic walk up Orrest Head

Orrest Head

Difficulty: Moderate - challenging | 2 hours

This popular family walk starts in Windermere and rewards you with panoramic views. Halfway up, you’ll meet some friendly faces – the Gruffalo and the Mouse!

Cockshott Point

Cockshott Point

Difficulty: Easy | 45 minutes

A short and easy walk in Bowness. Perfect for little legs and prams, this gentle stroll offers beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills.

Brockhole

Brockhole Gardens

Difficulty: Easy | 1 hour

Take the red cruise from Bowness to Brockhole. Once you arrive, enjoy a peaceful stroll around the stunning gardens and grounds, which are ideal for prams.

Stagshaw Garden

Stagshaw Garden

Difficulty: Moderate | 1 hour

Start from Waterhead Pier and walk along the A591 past Ambleside YHA to reach Stagshaw Garden. Follow the winding woodland paths through colourful shrubs and towering trees. Some sections are quite steep, but the views make it worthwhile. Be sure to stop at the peaceful viewpoint for stunning lake and mountain scenery, and look out for the small cascading waterfall hidden among the trees.

West Windermere Way

West Windermere Way

Difficulty: Easy to moderate | 1 hour

Start from Lakeside pier, following the path beside the railway and along the lake. The route includes new railings and bridges, gentle slopes, and plenty of benches to rest and enjoy views of Gummers How. Continue past the marina and paddleboard hire area to finish near the Swan Hotel, where you can stop for refreshments before heading back.

Best For: Families, relaxed walkers, and those exploring with mobility scooters (partly pram and mobility friendly)
