Getting Here:
- 🚉 By Train: Arrive at Windermere Station, then either walk to Bowness or take the bus
- 🚙 By Car: Plenty of council pay-and-display car parks are available nearby
9:20 AM:
Board the scenic ferry from Bowness Pier on Lake Windermere. Enjoy the refreshing breeze and stunning lake views as you journey towards Ash Landing (For more departure times, check the timetable).
The mountain goat 525 bus will be waiting to pick up up and leaves at 9:29am.
9:55 AM:
Your first stop is Hill Top, the charming farmhouse where Beatrix Potter once lived. The home remains just as she left it. Spend about an hour exploring the house and gardens, and don't miss grabbing a takeaway coffee from Joey's Coffee Hut.

Get back on the mountain goat 525 for your next stop: Hawkshead village! Prepare to be captivated by its cobbled streets lined with quaint shops, cafes brimming with local delicacies, and traditional pubs oozing with character. The village is delightfully compact, allowing you to explore everything at a leisurely pace.
Hawkshead highlights, Grasmere Gingerbread, a new addition to the village offering the original recipe dating back to 1874. Next door, Hawkshead Relish, a family-run business, beckons with its award-winning condiments and perfect gift options. Craving something sweet? The Chocolate Factory is a paradise for chocoholics, offering delectable treats and even chocolate-making workshops – a fun activity for the whole family!

By now, your tummy might be rumbling. Hawkshead caters to all tastes. Billy's offers a friendly atmosphere and a varied menu, while the Queen's Head, a traditional pub, promises hearty pub fare.

Following in the footsteps of Beatrix Potter, we visit the Hawkshead Grammar School, where another literary legend, William Wordsworth, received his education. As your day winds down, enjoy a leisurely stroll back to Ash Landing. Before catching the ferry back, take a moment to explore Pure Lakes, a shop brimming with beautiful, handcrafted soaps, moisturisers, candles, and more, all inspired by the natural beauty of the Lake District.
4:55 PM: Return to Bowness
Catch the 4:55 PM shuttle back from Ash Landing to Bowness, concluding your perfect day in Hawkshead. You will arrive into Bowness at around 5:10 PM.
