Winter brings a completely different energy to the Lake District. The light is gentler, the scenery feels more peaceful and the whole place takes on a calm, wintry glow. It is a great time to get outside, wander at your own pace and enjoy views you might normally rush past. Whether you snap a quick photo or simply take it all in, these winter spots offer some of the season’s most memorable moments.

Possibly one of the most photographed buildings in the Lakes, Bridge House is tiny, quirky and full of character. It looks like something from a storybook and has a charm that never fades. It works just as well on a grey day as it does in sunshine, which makes it a reliable Instagram favourite throughout the year.
Approx 20 minute walk from Waterhead pier.

Winter at Brockhole offers open views across the lake, clear sightlines through the gardens and beautifully low light. From the top of the gardens, you can enjoy sweeping views across Windermere, while down by the lakeshore there are plenty of quiet corners for relaxed, natural shots. On bright winter days, frost or a light dusting of snow adds extra texture, making every photo feel crisp and calm.

After winter rainfall, Stock Ghyll Force is at its most dramatic. The waterfall rushes through the woods, surrounded by mossy rocks and bare trees. It feels wild and atmospheric, perfect for capturing the raw side of the Lake District in winter.
