“I’m feeling a little bit light-headed!” Ian explained after completing the challenge.

“It feels strange without my hair and beard but I’m over the moon at the money raised so far.”

Ian took up the MacMillan Cancer Support Brave the Shave challenge after having a benign tumour removed from his head. “I just wanted to do something to highlight all the great work that MacMillan Cancer Support does,” he says.

The shave was carried out by one of MV Swift’s skippers Mihai Nichita who developed his hair clipping skills while serving in the army.

“He did a great job,” says Ian; “I’m just pleased he used clippers and not a cutthroat razor!”

Ian, who’s from Bowness-on-Windermere, has worked with Windermere Lake Cruises for around 15 years so when he was looking for a location to Brave the Shave – the outside deck of the company’s newest vessel MV Swift seemed the perfect choice.

“I’ve had the full beard for around ten years so losing it is a big shock. But I don’t mind at all because it is for such a great cause.

“All of us live with cancer one way or another. Either we have it or we have a loved one who has it. I’d like to thank all those who have donated – the funds will allow Macmillan to support a lot of people.”

Donations can still be made online by visiting the MacMillan Cancer Support Brave the Shave website bravetheshave.macmillan.org.uk/. You can search the site for those taking part in the shaving challenge and make donations online.
