“Silver Sailors” make savings as local pensioners get Windermere cruise boost

Pensioners living in Cumbria and North Lancashire will benefit as Windermere Lake Cruises re-introduces a popular discount scheme for local residents of retirement age.

The “Silver Sailors “discount comes into force on Friday, November 3 and will run every Friday until March 22, 2024.

It means “Silver Sailors” can enjoy unlimited travel on England’s longest lake with a “Freedom of the Lake” ticket for just £7.50 when the usual price is £23.

Windermere Lake Cruises’ Sales & Marketing Director Jennifer Cormack says: “We know from previous years that these discounted tickets are extremely popular with local people of retirement age.

“We hope they will prove even more useful at this time when many of us are affected by the cost of living crisis. We hope lots of people will take advantage of the tickets and have a great time.

“This time of year, with trees displaying stunning autumnal colours, is a lovely time to experience Windermere.”

“Silver Sailor” tickets are also available on Yellow or Red Cruise tickets which are discounted to £4.20. The usual price is £17.30 or £16.50 per person.

The offer also extends to the popular Lakeland Motor Museum at Backbarrow. Entry on these Fridays is reduced from £11 to £5.50

All the offers are open to retired people (normally over 60) who live locally in postcode areas beginning with either LA or CA – including North Lancashire, as well as across Cumbria.

Every “Silver Sailor” can also bring along a local friend of any age, for the same discounted rate.

With jetties along the lake, visitors can stop-off at beauty spots like the Lake District Visitor Centre at Brockhole - which offers plenty of room for the grandchildren to burn off energy!

All people need to do to qualify for the Friday discounts offer is present proof of residency when booking.

Tickets can be purchased from any Windermere Lake Cruises booking office, located at Bowness Pier, Lakeside Pier and Ambleside (Waterhead) Pier. They can also be bought at the offices of the Lakeland Motor Museum.

Residents of ALL ages in Cumbria and North Lancashire can also enjoy big discounts with Windermere Lake Cruises’ Local Residents’ Discount Card which is free to anyone living in CA or LA postcode areas.

They qualify for a 50 per cent discount on cruises and entry to the Lakeland Motor Museum from the beginning of this month (October) until April 30 next year.

Holders of the cards continue to qualify for a 20% discount from May 1st next year right up to the beginning of October 2024. The card also gives holders a 15% discount in the Lakeland Motor Museum’s gift shop up until December 31st this year.
