18 AUGUST 2025 - Swaminarayan Hindu procession & celebration
Categories: Events
Monday 18 August | From 9:30am | Bowness
On Monday 18 August, Bowness will come alive with vibrant colours, music and celebration as hundreds of Swaminarayan Hindus gather for a spectacular procession through the village.
Organised by Shree Swaminarayan Mandir Bolton, this grand event honours the cherished memories of Shree Muktajeevan Swamibapa and Ved Ratna Acharya Swamishree Maharaj—spiritual leaders remembered with deep reverence. The route holds special significance, as Bowness is regarded as a sacred site by followers. In 1979, a much-loved leader spent his final hours on a peaceful cruise here on Windermere.
What to Expect
From 9:30am, the colourful parade will begin near Bowness Royalty Cinema, making its way down to Bowness Pier. Locals and visitors alike will line the streets to enjoy the spectacular sights and sounds of:
Traditional bagpipe bands
Energetic dancers
An ornate ceremonial chariot
A short cruise on Lake Windermere
A lakeside congregation
Lunch and gathering on Swamibapa Hill (behind the Coach Park)
We are honoured to once again welcome our friends from Bolton and disciples from across the UK and beyond. We wish everyone a joyful and memorable celebration.

🚧 Road Closure
